Baby Botox®: What Exactly Is It?

Brighton Botox

Worried that Botox® will make you look frozen and expressionless? Keep reading as Baby Botox® may be just the thing for you…

Baby Botox®: What is it?

Baby Botox® uses the same Botulinum Toxin strength concentrations as normal Botox® injections but smaller amounts are precisely placed into the facial muscles where required, gently relaxing them. Skin appears smoother, and wrinkles are relaxed. The advantage is that you will still be able to make softer facial expressions such as frowning and raising your eyebrows.

Rumour has it that it was developed in Hollywood when directors were complaining that actresses weren’t able to make facial expressions when filming. In came Baby Botox® which enabled them to have the best of both worlds.

Baby Botox®: How does it work?

Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. The toxin blocks the transition of chemical messages sent from the nerve to cause the muscle to contract. Without these messages, the muscle stays in a resting state until the ‘messengers’ recover.

Baby Botox®: How long does it last?

This anti-wrinkle treatment isn’t permanent, so you can see how it works for you. Generally re-treatment is recommended every few months to delay deeper wrinkles from forming.

What’s the difference between ‘normal Botox®’ and ‘Baby Botox®’?

The formula and concentration of the Botulinum toxin remains the same between the two treatments. The main difference is the dosing, with baby Botox® there is a smaller dosage used in each area being treated.

Baby Botox®: does it hurt?

The needle that we use is incredibly fine and is only in the skin for a few seconds at a time. Generally clients find this treatment comfortable and do not require any anaesthetic. If however your particularly anxious, please do let Dr Bejal know at the consultation appointment.

Baby Botox®: what are the side effects?

Baby Botox® generally is an incredibly safe treatment. However side effects can include:

• Bruising

• Swelling at injection sites

• Redness at injection sites

• Asymmetry of expression

• Drooping of the eyebrow, or eyelid

• Headache or a sensation of ‘tightness’

Its longevity is less than that of conventional Botox® so side effects if any are shorter lived.

Baby Botox®: Who can have it?

Botox® is one of the most popular treatments that we offer at the clinic, especially to treat the upper face (forehead, frown lines and crow’s feet).

Baby Botox® is a great option for:

  • Younger clients who want to delay the early signs of ageing and wrinkle formation.

  • First time clients who aren’t sure if Botox® is for them. The smaller dosing will ensure a more subtle result so you don’t have to worry about having an ’overdone’ look.

  • Clients who want a more ‘natural’ look

  • Clients wanting to maintain some of their muscle movement e.g. actors and actresses

Will anybody be able to tell I’ve had treatment?

With baby Botox®, muscle movement is subtly maintained enabling you to make facial expressions and as a result it should not be obvious to those around you.

As with anything, this is not a one size fits all treatment which is why Azure Aesthetics offer a complementary 2 week review appointment following initial treatment. If a further top up of Baby Botox® is required, it is given free of charge at this visit.
